I thought I’d share my gym with you because I want to start posting my workouts! My husband and I built this almost a year and a half ago and we love it! Of course I didn’t use it for a while… but I’m back to it!
We decided to invest in a home gym because we were wasting a lot of time and money commuting to a gym. My husband is into power lifting so we were going to a specialty gym that was about $70 a month for both of us (that’s $840 we were spending a year on the membership alone). The gym wasn’t close to us either so it was about a 15-20 minute drive there (which adds up in gas) plus the same distance coming home. We decided that it would be worth it in the long run to have a gym at home.
When we moved to a rental home we decided it was the perfect time! We got the major equipment (squat rack, bar, bench and rubber plates) from Rogue Fitness. Expensive, I know, but worth it. We got some other plates and dumbbells off of Craig’s list and the rest of the equipment from Amazon.
I got these SKLZ Mini Bands from Amazon! They’ve been great for stretching and adding extra resistance to my leg workouts. The longer black band (Pull Up Band) I also got from Amazon and I use it to stretch my lower back and to do assisted pull ups. All of these bands are great if you want to work out at home!
My husband found the flooring at a farm equipment store out of the city. I don’t know how he found this place but it was exponentially cheaper than everywhere else we looked. If you’re looking to build a home gym yourself check out a local farming equipment store! Eventually we’ll have to get more as we expand the gym (I have a wish list already!).
I think our gym was absolutely worth it! It fits our lifestyle so much better and I love that my cats can watch me work out!
